BARGAIN OF THE WEEK: Tabu by Dana

Notes: rich rose, orange blossom, jasmine, vetiver, oakmoss, amber and musk.

.5 ounce perfume: Retail Price $15; Fragrancenet $7.89

Why should I buy it? Launched in 1932, this floriental smells remarkably similar to any number of brands of Indian incense or Middle Eastern attars. A sweet, deep, amber and musk fragrance, lightened in the topnotes with my three favorite florals, this un-fussy, straightforward classic might actually surprise you. I've been wearing the eau de cologne, but am going to definitely order the perfume. I figure for that price, how could I really go wrong?

This past christmas, all my great grandmother wanted (or rather all she claimed that she needed) was Tabu. And despite my desire to find a fragrance that didnt make the salespeople at department stores chuckle when I asked if they carried it, I found myself leaving Opium and Ysatis and just picking up Tabu from Meijer, why? Because I figure she has been wearing it since it appeared on the market, whats the use trying to convince her there are better frags out there now. But, honestly Ive never smelled it. After this review, maybe I dont have to be so ashamed lol.

Tabu? Oh yeah! Guys love Tabu. Reminds me of October 1987 making out with my friend Mike in whichever car he 'borrowed' from his dad's repair garage. Blood red lipstick (mine:)) staining both our faces and the rest of my makeup on his white t-shirt. My friends who were pining for Mike (a Vin Diesel type before Vin Diesel existed) wore Coty Nuance and Giorgio. Anyone wanna guess why Mike was into me and didn't even notice them? ;-)

cp - I was surprised by how much it reminded me of a head shop - heavy sweet incense...

justin - if grandma wears it, I wouldn't be surprised if you hesitated about trying it yourself, but I think you'd be surprised!

Thank you, Dahling! Tabu may have had something to do with it too, yes?
